How to visit Public Baths (outside spas)

In Kinosaki Onsen area, there are 7 Public Baths (outsidespas) that have been enjoyed by people from a very long time ago.
Each Public Bath(outside spa) has its own origin, history, and guardian god and it is said that if you visit all of seven, you will get Seven Good Fortunes.

Communication Public Bath spa, "Sato no yu"
The big station building spa built in July 2000. "Sato no Yu" was born by adding the modern with the historical Kinosaki Onsen.
On the 1st floor, there is a reception desk and rest area or lobby. On the 2nd floor, there is an indoor bath, and on the 3rd floor, there are open air spas,There is a high temperature sauna, Finish sauna, and Penguin sauna. Also there is the largest outside spa in Kinosaki. Please take your time and enjoy this exotic space full of the herbal scents together with the soothing water fall sound in this exotic atmosphere, while watching the natural meander of the Maruyama river.

Good Luck fortune spa "Ichi no yu"
In the middle of Edo Period, the medicinal benefits of this hot spring were founded by Goto Konzan. His leading disciple, Kagawa Shutoku admired this spa as the best spa in the world in his book " Yakusen, or Selected medicine". Ichi means number one, so this is how this spa got it's name "Ichi no yu".There is a monument of Dr. Fujinami, an authority of the modern balneology, " Kaidai Daiissen" located in the side garden.The building is like Kabukiza in Osaka which was built in the architectural style of the Momoyama period, located in the center of Kinosaki Onsen area, many tourists come to see this bath house.

Bath for beauty "Goshono yu"
Goshono yu was renewed in July 2005.The origin of the name from the historical story "Masukagami" written in the Nanbokucho Period telling of the sister of Emperor Gohorikawa, Ankamonin took a bath here.In Edo Period, a camp was situated next to the west side of this bath house, there was a bath called "Tono no yu, bath for the lord" or "Kagi no yu, or the bath of the key", but in the Meiji Period, these baths were merged into Goshonoyu.The present building resembles Kyoto Gosho.
The inside bath and open air bath were merged and they are made from local lumber so you can get the feeling of the outdoors here.This spa is known as a bath for acouple to make a good match, and also known for women to become beautiful.

A bath for wishing for a good life, "Mandara yu"
In 717, the founder of Onsenji (Onsen Temple), Douchi - Shonin in 720 prayed mandala 1000 days , as the result of his praying, "it rained hard and the hot spring water gushed from the ground." This is the reason of the name"Mandala yu".800 years later, suddenly the water boiled, but by chance Nisshin Shounin from Kyoto was there, he drew a Mandala and threw it into the spa, it sank to the bottom of the spring. As the result of his praying, the temperature of the water returned to normal.
The roof was fashioned like one of a temple because this bath house has a special relation to Buddha, the entrance is a Chinese cusped gable( Rounded arch style), and an open air bath where you can enjoy the greenery of the mountain and has a wooden barrel type bathtub made of Japanese cypress.Please note the operation hours, because it is not open in the morning.

Spa for salvation all living things "Jizo no yu"
The statue of the guardian diety of children (Jizo san) was found at the source, this name was given to it.Therefore, the statue of the guardian diety of children was enshrined in it's garden.This is the modernest building of the outside spas (bathhouses) with Japanese garden lanterns, broad hexangular windows which were made by using the image of the geometric rocks found in the "Genbudou, or basalt cave"which is a natural treasure.Since the Edo Period, this bath house has been very popular among the local people.

Fortune and good luck spa, "Kouno yu"
This is the one of the oldest bath houses that gets it name from a special natural treasure, "Japanese storks".They came here to heal their wounded legs in the spa 1400 years ago.The architecture style is simple taking in the breeze from the mountain, this bath house is located inside away from the street, the open air bath is esspecially recommendable because you can enjoy watching the garden, while soaking in a bathtub made of rocks.

Conception spa "Yanagi yu"
Yanagi yu was rebuilt in February 2004.The name originates from a story a hot spring gushed out from under a willow tree brought from the Seiko Lake in China.The bath house was located in the rear of it's present location, the water is said to be effective for external injuries and swelling.Please note the operation hours, because it is not open in the morning.
